HELLERTOWN, Pa. — A borough man was arrested Saturday after police say he stabbed another man multiple times.
Police say they were called to the 7-Eleven on Main Street about 3:20 a.m. Saturday for a report of a man with blood-stained clothing.
They identified the man as William Vera, according to a release from the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office.
An investigation revealed that Vera had stabbed a man at a home in the first block of Thomas Avenue and the knife was recovered by police, the DA said.
Authorities said the victim, Vera's roommate Patrick Drake, was stabbed in the head, neck and torso with a folding knife.
Police went to the home and discovered Drake with multiple stab wounds, unconscious on the living room floor. He was treated by EMS on scene and rushed to the hospital, the release said.
Vera told investigators that Vera was staying at his friend Drake's place after Vera had been evicted from his apartment across the street, according to court records.
Police said they recovered the knife from a trash can lid at the 7-Eleven.
Vera was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault. He was arraigned in the courtroom of Magisterial District Judge Robert Hawke on Saturday.
Bail was denied due to Vera being deemed a “threat to society,” according to court records.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Aug. 16.
Police said Drake is expected to survive his injuries.
