BETHLEHEM, Pa. —- Brittany Sweeney hosted our latest event, "LehighValley+ Live: A Conversation With Stephen S. Tang," at our studios on the SteelStacks campus.
Tang, a renowned business leader and entrepreneur, took part in an insightful discussion about his time leading OraSure — the Bethlehem-based diagnostic testing kit company — through the global pandemic as it developed the InteliSwab Covid-19 Rapid Test.
He also discussed the growth of health and science entrepreneurship in the Lehigh Valley, and the release of his debut book, "A Test for Our Time: Crisis Leadership in the Next Normal."
He writes about compassionate leadership and leading "wholeheartedly."
Tang served as OraSure's president and CEO from 2018 to 2022 and was first elected to its board of directors in 2011.
He has been a figure in the Lehigh Valley since first coming to the region in the early 1980s to attend Lehigh University.
Before becoming OraSure's leader, he was president and CEO of the University City Science Center, an urban research park in Philadelphia, from 2008 to 2018.
From 2005 to 2008, he was a senior executive with Olympus America, including leading their life sciences group of businesses.
Tang holds a doctorate degree in chemical engineering from Lehigh University, an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the College of William and Mary.
