CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network on Tuesday plans to hold a program regarding the inclusion of those with disabilities, and the public is invited.

The free event, from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, will invite two members of the disability community to speak at the new rehabilitation hospital in Center Valley.

It will be inside Empower+, on the hospital's first floor. There also is a virtual option to attend.

“Almost 60 million Americans have some sort of disability,” said Amanda Clark, director of Good Shepherd Creates.

"A lot of these people have tremendous amounts of experience and knowledge and perspective to bring, and we just wanted to be able to provide a conversation starter around this to highlight the importance of creating these opportunities for people."

"A lot of these people have tremendous amounts of experience and knowledge and perspective to bring, and we just wanted to be able to provide a conversation starter around this to highlight the importance of creating these opportunities for people."

Clark said speakers will discuss some of the challenges they faced entering the workforce having various disabilities, how they overcame them and some of the accommodations they asked for to be a successful employee.

“Really just to hear firsthand from them their experience as a person with a disability in the workforce,” she said.

One guest was born with a progressive condition and another woman is legally blind. Both are full-time employees in the nonprofit sector.

Good Shepherd also will hold a "hacking your smartphone" series this spring.

The 78-bed state-of-the-art facility off Route 309 in Center Valley opened last summer and since has been host for a number of informative events opened to the community.
