BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Some Lehigh Valley healthcare providers are scrambling to see if they can still hold vaccine clinics next week because of a statewide shortage of Moderna shots. The shortage is tied to an error at the Pennsylvania Department of Health that could impact up to 100,000 people across the Commonwealth.
As a result, Lehigh Valley Health Network is rescheduling about 15,000 appointments for people slated to get a second dose of Moderna on Feb. 19. Appointments for next week will remain on the books for now.
As for Allentown’s Health Bureau, a spokesman said they may run short on second doses starting at the end of next week. That could impact up to 1,000 people.
Bethlehem’s Health Bureau has 6,000 appointments on the books for the remainder of this week and next week. The director there said it’s unclear if they’re getting any shots for six clinics next week.
WLVR also reached out to St. Luke’s University Health Network for updates but did not receive a response in time for air.
Pfizer vaccines are NOT affected by the shortfall.
