The money comes from a grant awarded during the Amazon Goes Gold campaign. It’s a program the company runs during Childhood Cancer Month in September.
Employees of the Luzerne County fulfillment center showed so much support for the program and its cause that they were able to choose the organization, fighting pediatric cancer in our community, to which to give the funds.
“We hope this donation will help support the children who are bravely fighting cancer, and the many doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who work so diligently to support them in their battle,” site General Manager Alyssa Walters said.
Lehigh Valley Rilley Children's Hospital President Anne Baum said, "We have a very robust children's oncology program. We have had this program for decades it serves the children of the region and allows them to stay in that area, not have to travel for, you know, hundreds of miles to get the care that they need.”
“We use dollars like this to help with training for our nurses and our child life specialists, our physicians, and all of that comes back to benefit the children and their families.”Anne Baum, President of Lehigh Valley Rilley Children's Hospital
Baum also said the money will go to help make the facility more comfortable for patients and their families, who often spend extended time at the hospital.
“This money will help us with activities for the kids, or to make the facility as comfortable and friendly and enjoyable as possible under the circumstances,” Baum said.
