BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Brad Klein reviews upcoming astronomical highlights with Bethlehem’s "Backyard Astronomy Guy," Marty McGuire.

This week, a look at the presentations and exhibitions at this year’s Lehigh Valley Space Fest, held at Lafayette College in Easton Oct. 11-12.

Presenters this year include: Joshua Pepper, program scientist for NASA's Astrophysics Division; Kim P. Gostelow, retired software engineer for NASA JPL Mars Rovers; and Kara Rock, former Lucy mission ambassador through the L’Space Academies at Arizona State University. Each will deliver programs in their area of expertise at the Jaqua Auditorium or Gagnon Lecture Hall at Lafayette College.

Pepper is the keynote speaker, and opens Space Fest at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Buck Hall, 219 N. Third St. His address will be followed by a presentation of the documentary "Cosmic Dawn: The Untold Story of the James Webb Space Telescope."

Rock’s presentation will focus on the planetary system of Jupiter, while Gostelow’s is titled, "The Mars Rovers: How We Get Them There."

McGuire enthused over the exhibitions that will be available to visitors.

“Inside you can see cool things like large and small model-rocket displays, meteorites, Apollo 11 history … book giveaways and a Star Trek-themed magic show on Sunday,” McGuire said.
