BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A quick-moving clipper could bring light snow to the Lehigh Valley before the New Year rings in.
It will arrive with an associated cold front, forecasters say.
As the front passes, it may touch off scattered snow showers moving north to south.
The best chance for snow will be in the Lehigh Valley, the southern Poconos and far northwest New Jersey.
Some light snow also could reach the Delaware Valley and southern New Jersey early Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
'It is going to stick'
Snowfall amounts will be light, with most places seeing little to no accumulation.
But far northern areas — especially at higher elevations — could see up to about an inch or two of snow, EPAWA meteorologist Bobby Martrich said in his latest video update.
“If you are out during the evening hours, especially as you get late evening and on either side of midnight, which a lot of you will be, you’re going to have to make sure you’re paying attention to the roadways,” Martrich said.
“If it does come down in any area, which most areas will see at least some snow showers from it, it is going to stick everywhere.
“It’s cold enough that it will stick on all surfaces and there will be some minor accumulations with that."
Martrich said the snow could include a heavier squall line, or burst of snow, but should move through and be out of the region very early Thursday.
“If you’re going to be out on New Year’s Eve, just make sure you’re paying attention,” he repeated, noting the squalls could creep up fast.
A cold, blustery start to 2026
New Year’s Day will be another breezy day across the area, with northwest winds gusting 20-30 mph, and a few gusts near 40 mph possible for the Poconos.
High temperatures for Thursday look to be in the 20s and low 30s for most locations, the weather service said.
A fairly benign pattern should emerge after, with perhaps some light precipitation possible again by the middle of next week.
