- The Lehigh Valley will finally have a dry weekend, forecasters say
- Daylight saving time ends Sunday, which means sunset is slated for 4:53 p.m.
- Sunsets will keep getting earlier through Dec. 12, and the winter solstice arrives Dec. 21
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — There’s good news and bad news about the weekend ahead in the Lehigh Valley.
For the first time in a long time, it looks like the weather will cooperate if you’re heading outdoors.
That’s the good news.
While Saturday should feature more clouds than sun, highs will remain seasonable in the upper 50s to low 60s, forecasters say.
That’s the best possible news for the more than 140 vendors and thousands of visitors expected as PA Bacon Fest returns to Easton for its 12th year.
The National Weather Service says skies should gradually clear through the day on Sunday, bringing sunshine for day two of the Fest — which will also feature live music, hog-calling, costumes, demonstrations, cook-offs, activities, bacon-eating contests and much more.
Now for the bad news
Before your head hits the pillow on Saturday night, don’t forget to rewind any clock in your home that won’t fall back on its own (the microwave, oven and anything else that isn’t "smart").
Come Sunday, daylight saving time is out and standard time reigns once again. That means an extra hour of sleep in the morning, but a sunset slated for 4:53 p.m.
Next week, the post-work commute will take place in total darkness for many and the threat of rainy weather returns.
The weather service says guidance remains in pretty good agreement that a system will move across the Northern Plains on Monday and into our area on Tuesday.
However, data shows a downward trend in precipitation, bringing a 10-40% chance of showers.
Tuesday should also be our warmest day of the week, with temperatures in the mid 60s.
Did you know?
If you’re looking for sun-drenched skies, warmer temperatures and no worries about the seasonal shifting of clocks, Hawaii and Arizona are the only states that do not observe daylight saving time.
If you're stuck here, there's a pattern of darkness ahead. By December 12, the sun will set in the Lehigh Valley area at 4:34 p.m.
The winter solstice arrives Dec. 21, marking the 24-hour period with the fewest daylight hours of the year. That’s why you’ll hear it referred to as the shortest day of the year, or the longest night of the year.
Daylight saving time is scheduled to return Sunday, March 10.
