LEHIGHTON, CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — A new festival this weekend aims to celebrate the D&L Trail, as well as the communities it connects.
The Carbon County D&L TrailFest is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lehighton Outdoor Center, 123 Lehigh Drive.

“The Carbon County D&L TrailFest is a celebration of community, conservation and connection,” officials said in a Thursday news release from the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, the agency that oversees the D&L Trail.
“Whether you're a trail enthusiast, a local history buff or just looking for a fun day out, TrailFest offers something for everyone.”
There will be more than a dozen local vendors, businesses and crafters, as well as trail and outdoor demonstrations and group walks.
Food and drink vendors will include Bright Path Brewing, Old Farmer Tea Company, Silverback Distillery, The Italian Guys, The Rolling Brew, and Woods Ice Cream.
There also will be live music by Dave Matsinko, a traditional folk and American heritage music singer, and Monroe Berger, a DJ and emcee for the outdoor center.

Area nonprofits also will be there, including: America250 Carbon County, Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corporation and the Delaware River Shad Fishermen's Association.
Also, Eckley Miner’s Village, the Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Landscape, the Lehighton Downtown Initiative and the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway and others.
The D&L Trail runs more than 140 miles through the Lehigh Valley, stretching from just outside of Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, Bucks County.
When completed, the trail will include 165 miles of hiking, biking and walking trails along old rail beds and canal towpaths on alternating sides of the Lehigh and Delaware rivers.
