ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Prepare for a day of changing weather patterns Sunday in the Lehigh Valley.

High pressure originating from the Great Lakes is shifting offshore on Sunday, paving the way for an approaching cold front at night. The front is expected to reach the Lehigh Valley on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

With it comes cloud cover and the possibility of showers after 2 p.m. Sunday, with temperatures reaching about 71. There will be a 30% chance of precipitation during the day, but any new rainfall is expected to be less than a tenth of an inch in the afternoon.

Come Sunday night, the atmosphere takes a more dramatic turn. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast before 8 p.m., followed by a likelihood of further showers, and perhaps another thunderstorm between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

As midnight approaches, a lingering chance of showers and thunderstorms remain. The night sky will be shrouded in clouds, with temperatures dipping to the mid to upper 50s. The likelihood of precipitation rises significantly to 70%, with new rainfall amounts projected between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.

Monday continues the theme of unsettled weather. There's a 30% chance of showers, primarily between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The day will bring a mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures peaking near 72 degrees.

As Monday night unfolds, the skies clear and conditions become partly cloudy, with temperatures settling around 55. A northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph is expected.

The promise of brighter days ahead emerges Tuesday. The forecast anticipates mostly sunny skies and pleasant weather, with a high near 75.
