ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Showers and thunderstorms swept through the region early Wednesday, delivering much-needed rain but also bringing the potential for heavy downpours.
The early hours of the day could still bring spotty showers and the possibility of thunderstorms, primarily before 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
As the morning advances, the weather is expected to gradually improve. The cloudy skies are predicted to clear around mid-morning, leading to a high temperature of about 81.
A south wind of 5 to 10 mph will shift to a northwest wind in the afternoon.
The chance of precipitation stands at 70% today, with new precipitation amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, though higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms.
Moving into the night, the weather is expected to calm down, with partly cloudy conditions and a low of around 58.
Mostly sunny through Labor Day
The NWS forecast indicates a shift toward more stable and cooler weather. A cold front is set to bring clearing skies and progressively drier air, with high pressure building on Thursday and lasting through Saturday.
This pattern will result in below-normal temperatures and dry conditions for the region. Friday night will bring cooler conditions with a low of 53 degrees.
