The Lehigh Valley could see a wintry mix on Wednesday.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A fast-moving system could bring another round of light snow or a wintry mix to the Lehigh Valley tomorrow, forecasters say.

Precipitation is expected to develop Wednesday morning over the southern Poconos and Lehigh Valley, perhaps as early as the morning rush, though some guidance has pushed timing beyond it.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Carbon and Monroe counties from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with mixed precipitation expected.

In the Lehigh Valley, precipitation could mostly be a wintry mix and/or a mix of rain/snow, making things slick by Wednesday afternoon.

Total snow accumulations in those areas could reach 2 to 4 inches, and ice accumulations around a light glaze, the advisory states.

In the Lehigh Valley, precipitation could mostly be a wintry mix and/or a mix of rain/snow, making things slick by Wednesday afternoon.

“This will give some snow to the area, for parts of the region anyway,” EPAWA meteorologist Bobby Martrich said in his latest video update.

“The trend has been to make this a little bit colder and a little bit further south than it originally looked like yesterday,” Martrich said.

And while the elevations are still favored for the best chances for snow, the Lehigh Valley could see a rain/snow mix and end up with a coating to an inch, Martrich said Tuesday afternoon.

EPAWA's official map will go live at 5 p.m., he said.

Temperatures the bigger story, again

With some snow still on the ground from last week, the big story again across the region will be below-average temperatures, with another blast of arctic air late in the weekend and/or early next week, the weather service said.

A number of quick moving systems and associated cold fronts are expected in the days ahead, which will keep temperatures on the cold side.

The Lehigh Valley currently is experiencing one of its coldest starts to December ever, with the average monthly temperature at 28.8 degrees.

Our next shot at minor accumulating snow may come Sunday, but it’s too far out for any forecast — and with guidance still showing varying solutions.

By next Monday, arctic high pressure again will build into the area, resulting in another very cold day with temperatures well below average, according to the weather service.

The Lehigh Valley currently is experiencing one of its coldest starts to December ever, with the average monthly temperature at 28.8 degrees.

That's almost nine degrees below average and the ninth-coldest period on record (Dec. 1-8), according to data from the Northeast Regional Climate Center.

The Valley’s current climate is more like Billings, Montana, the NRCC says in its climate perspectives ‘most similar city’ tool.

Temperatures currently are more typical of late January to early February than early December, based on past climatological periods.
