A heat advisory and excessive heat watch will be in effect for the Lehigh Valley. The heat advisory from the National Weather Service will be in effect from 10 a.m Sunday, July 14, to 6 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2024. The excessive heat watch covers Monday morning through Tuesday night.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Here we go again.

Get ready for another round of extreme heat starting Sunday and continuing through the week.

A heat advisory and excessive heat watch will be in effect for the Lehigh Valley and southeastern Pennsylvania.

The heat advisory from the National Weather Service will be in effect from 10 a.m Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. The excessive heat watch – when the risk of a heat wave has increased but the timing remains uncertain – covers Monday morning through Tuesday night.

After a soggy period that interrupted the second heat wave of the summer, Lehigh and Northampton counties look to be getting right back into the soupy stuff.

Sunday’s high temperature is forecast to hit 93 in the Allentown area with a heat index of 98. Monday and Tuesday will be even hotter, with the heat index reaching up to 106 Monday through Tuesday.

Sunshine is in the forecast Sunday through Tuesday, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Monday’s high temperature will hit 96 and Tuesday will go to 98, according to the weather service forecast. Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high of 95.

If the forecast holds, the next week will bring the third heat wave of the summer and already take our region past the average of 14.42 summer days in the 90s for records that date to 1912.

Showers are likely Wednesday night, and possibly a thunderstorm, as the overnight temperature dips to 69.

At this point we won’t see another day after today that isn’t in the 90s until Thursday, when mostly sunny skies and a high near 85 are forecast. Friday’s forecast is the same.

There's even a chance the temperature could hit 90 today; the weather service forecast calls for a high near 89 and a chance of showers after 11 a.m.
