EASTON, Pa. – Six candidates in all had enough votes to clinch a nomination for the Bangor Area School Board in unofficial results late Tuesday night, eliminating half the incumbents running for re-election, and one newcomer seeking the office.
- Nominees were Christopher Marozzi, Michael Goffredo, Colleen Schiavone, Tanya Peifly, Courtney Gilmour and Melissa Smith
- Two incumbents were eliminated – Toni Lynch and Zachary Miller – along with newcomer Annamarie Robertone
- Most of the candidates in the general election will have nominations from both the Democratic and Republican parties. Smith will appear on the general election ballot as a Republican, and Gilmour will appear as a Democrat
Five seats on the school board are up for grabs this year.
Only two of the four incumbents running – Christopher Marozzi and Michael Goffredo – had enough votes in unofficial results to move on to the general election. Both candidates cross-filed in the Democratic and Republican primaries and appeared to clinch nominations from both parties.
Four newcomers finished with enough votes to cinch a party nomination. Two appeared poised to finish in the top five in both parties’ races: Colleen Schiavone, a retired teacher, and Tanya Peifly, who owns a chain of child care centers.
Full-time foster parent Courtney Gilmour will appear on the November ballot as a Democrat, and St. Luke’s billing specialist Melissa Smith will appear as a Republican.
Current school board treasurer Zachary Miller did not receive enough votes to make it to the general election. Nor did incumbent Toni Lynch, who faced an uphill battle after being removed from the Republican primary following a challenge to his nomination petition.
Challenger Annamarie Robertone, an occupational health consultant from Washington Township, also failed to finish in the top five in either primary, according to unofficial results.
