EASTON, Pa. — Northampton County Council on Monday swore in four new members and one returning member, and chose new officers to lead the board.
But appointment of a new solicitor will have to wait.
A ceremony in Courthouse 1 saw new members David Holland, Jason B. Boulette, Theresa Fadem and Nadeem Qayyum, alongside incumbent Lori Vargo Heffner, take their oaths of office.
The newly sworn-in Democratic council members beat out Republicans Sam Elias, John P. Goffredo, John Brown, Daniel Campo and Juan E. Martinez in the fall election.

District 1 Councilman Ken Kraft was nominated for the position of president in addition to Heffner, with the council voting in favor of Kraft.
District 3 Councilman Jeff Warren and District 4 Councilman Tom Giovanni were nominated for the vice president role, with council voting in favor of Warren.
But when it came time to select a solicitor for council, there was a bit of an issue: A single nomination for former County Executive Lamont McClure — a motion made by Commissioner Kelly Keegan — failed to secure a second and died on the floor.
There were no further nominations.
Council opted to ask sitting solicitor Christopher Spadoni to remain “until such time that council has an opportunity to vet a new solicitor.”
“It would be my pleasure to stay on for several weeks or a short period of time until council identifies my successor for my retirement,” Spadoni said in response.
