Political scientist Chris Borick said he believes the state Supreme Court retention races are the most compelling races this election cycle.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Election Day is less than a week away.

On this week's episode of Political Pulse, host Tom Shortell and political scientist Chris Borick set the state for what to expect.

Borick said he considers Supreme Court retention races to be the hot ticket this year.

"I mean, the courts have redefined lots of American politics, executive power. We're seeing right, federalism, questions, all kinds of important things," Borick said.

"So let's just say that these retention races lead to three justices getting no votes. We'd have to go, you know, two years from now, to a new election for three justices — all of them Democrats — that could reshape the nature of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court."

But there's other compelling races taking place locally, too, Borick said, like those for county executive, mayoral races and school board races.

When asked, Borick said, despite being the third largest city in the state, he would consider the Allentown mayoral race to be a lower-profile race he's interested in watching.

"We've got a deep, deep number of important elections," Borick said.
