ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The 2025 local election cycle is officially underway as political hopefuls across Pennsylvania filed petitions to appear on the primary ballot by Tuesday's deadline.
Lehigh County voters will elect a county judge, a county executive, county commissioners, mayors, township supervisors, school board directors and others when they head to the polls this year.
While voter turnout is expected to drop sharply compared to the 2024 presidential election cycle, these officials arguably have a greater impact on local life by controlling local tax rates, ruling in local trials and setting policies about the education of area children.
The complete, unofficial list of candidates in Lehigh County was not immediately available at the close of business on Tuesday. Lehigh County officials posted the full list Wednesday.
Making the unofficial list does not guarantee a spot on the ballot. Members of the public may challenge whether a candidate's petition meets all requirements spelled out by state law.
For example, Allentown mayoral candidate Solomon Tembo appeared to have a fatal flaw in his paperwork as he listed a Salisbury Township address as his residence.
