BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Voters cast ballots in races at the county and local levels in Tuesday’s general election.

School board seats and statewide judicial posts were also up for grabs — and the day was not without controversy after a problem with recording votes for judicial retention prompted officials to shut down electronic machines in Northampton County.

Lehigh County results

Northampton County Council

Democrats appear poised to win both contested seats on Northampton County Council, unofficial results show, giving the party a firm majority on the body.

Northampton County Controller

Tara Zrinski appears headed for a new office in the Northampton County Government Center.

With votes still to be counted as of early Wednesday, the county council member was leading by a 6,000-vote margin in the race for Northampton County controller.

Northampton County Judge

Democrat Brian Panella declared victory in the race for Northampton County judge late Tuesday, likely securing a 10-year term on the Court of Common Pleas.

Bethlehem City Council

As of about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Democrat Colleen Laird was leading the charge for Bethlehem City Council, holding the most votes across both Northampton and Lehigh counties with 8,336, according to unofficial election results.

Lehigh County Commissioners

The Democratic slate of Lehigh County commissioner candidates appears to have secured a clean sweep in Tuesday's election, extending the party's historic hold on the board of commissioners.

Lehigh County Controller

Unofficial results showed Democratic incumbent Mark Pinsley leading Republican challenger Robert Smith Jr. by more than 6,200 votes with nearly all precincts reporting. Pinsley has made headlines for his unconventional audits through his first four years in office.
