Beginning with our voters guides, we spell out each race:
Across the state, the governor's race is a big one this year, since term-restricted as Gov. Tom Wolf's time in office draws to a close:
Democratic Candidate and Attorney General Josh Shapiro visited the Lehigh Valley on Nov. 4
Shapiro announced his intention to run more than a year ago
Candidate Doug Mastriano won the Republican nomination
Mastriano vowed to make Pennsylvania "the Florida of the north"
Not all Republicans jumped on the Mastriano campaign trail
Also statewide, the race for the U.S. Senate seat that will be vacant when Sen. Pat Toomey leaves Washington has been very lively:
Democratic candidate and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman had a stroke right before the primary election in May
Republicans chose Dr. Mehmet Oz to represent the GOP ticket
The politicians met face-to-face for one debate
Both Fetterman and Oz have spent time in the Lehigh Valley
Locally, the race between two-term incumbent Susan Wild (D-Lehigh/Monroe and Republican businesswoman Lisa Scheller to win the PA-7 Congressional seat has also been very spirited:
Wild and Scheller debated twice: once on Oct. 7 and again on Oct. 21, in an event hosted by LehighValleyNews.com and WLVR.
Scheller made several appearances touting her pro-business ideals
Wild also made many campaign appearances to make her priorities clear
The candidates spent millions on their respective campaigns
Reporter Tom Shortell summed up the state races as follows:
State Senate:
Nick Miller and Dean Browning are in a race for the 14th state Senate District which stretches from Emmaus to Bushkill Township. They held a debate on Oct. 27
The 16th District includes the northern portion of Bucks County and most of Lehigh County's suburbs. Parkland School Board Director Jarrett Coleman, who ousted longtime incumbent Pat Browne in the Republican primary, faces Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley.
The 18th District. includes the Easton, Bethlehem and Nazareth areas, along with the Slate Belt. Democratic incumbent Lisa Boscola faces Republican John Merhottein, a Bethlehem Township commissioner.
State House:
The 22nd District includes its Allentown City Councilman Josh Siegel, a Democrat, against former Allentown School Board Director Robert Smith Jr., a Republican. The district includes Fountain Hill and parts of Allentown and Salisbury Township.
The 131st District runs from Lower Saucon Township to Lower Milford Township along with portions of Montgomery County. Republican incumbent Milou Mackenzie and Democratic challenger Kevin Branco are in a rematch.
132nd District is based in South Whitehall Township and includes portions of Upper Macungie Township and Allentown. Democratic incumbent Michael Schlossberg faces two challengers: Republican Beth Finch and Libertarian Matthew Schutter.
The 134th District includes Emmaus and parts of Allentown and Salisbury Township. Rep. Peter Schweyer is running against Republican challenger Brent Labenberg.
The 137th District features Bethlehem, Lower Nazareth and Upper Nazareth townships, Nazareth, Tatamy and most of Palmer Township. Rep. Joe Emrick and Democratic challenger Anna Thomas are vying for a district that's about evenly split between registered Democratic and Republican voters.
The 138th District includes Bath, Stockertown, the Bangor and Pen Argyl area school districts, Bushkill and Forks townships and the eastern half of Moore Township. Rep. Ann Flood faces Democratic challenger Gene Hunter.
Reps. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd; Steve Samuelson, D-135th; Robert Freeman, D-136th; Zach Mako, R-183rd; and Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th are running uncontested.
