WASHINGTON - In a divided senate this past weekend, Pennsylvania’s split delegation stood together.
Both U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) and U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) voted to convict former President Donald Trump. The Senate ultimately voted to acquit.
After the vote, former Lehigh Valley Congressman Charlie Dent, a Republican, said the GOP is in a “very bad place.”
“The party needs to recommit itself to truth and democracy and to move away from this nihilism, this nativism, this cronyism that we've been experiencing over the last few years that has led to you know, this big lie about the election being stolen and ultimately this insurrection.”
Since leaving Congress in 2018, Dent has emerged as a prominent Trump critic and a spokesman for the moderate wing of the Republican Party.
He has recently started a new job as director of a program at the Aspen Institute that leads bipartisan education seminars for members of Congress.
