When news came in that Joe Biden became the president-elect, a local Pennsylvania activist group was holding a virtual meeting. WLVR’s Tyler Pratt has more on a uniquely 2020 experience.
Lehigh Valley Stands Up was on a Zoom call Saturday morning when a member with a weak internet connection jumped on.
“I don’t know if you can see my screen but -” they cut out before finishing the statement.
Director Ashleigh Strange shared the group’s collective feeling. They’ve been working for months to get out the vote in Lehigh and Northampton counties.
“Oh my god, Jerome this is a bad time for your sound to be cutting out, oh my god,” she said.
A member put his phone up to the TV, and the Zoom room erupted in applause.
Democratic Congresswoman Susan Wild, who just won her re-election campaign, was on the call.
“I wanted to get on this Zoom and tell you how proud I am of all of you. Little did I know we were going to get the news right in the middle of this. It’s really exciting to be with all of you to celebrate,” said Wild.
Members say, after some celebration, they will turn their attention to municipal elections for 2021.
