EASTON, Pa. — A month after the announcement that Easton’s popular Porters’ Pub was changing hands, the new owners are celebrating a new era of classic hospitality in the city.
This Saturday, Porters’ owners Ryan and Christine Piper will cut the ribbon to commemorate the passing of the pub, which has been a mainstay of Easton’s food and drink scene for 3 1/2 decades.
Larry, Ken and Jeff Porter in early February confirmed the sale of the watering hole to the Pipers, a couple who originally met while working there.
The event, set to run from 10 a.m. to noon with the ribbon cutting scheduled for 10:30 a.m., will feature light appetizers in addition to an extensive list of craft brews from around the world.
If you’re feeling particularly ambitious, you can join the Mug Club and work your way into local notoriety after working your way through five dozen individual pints.
And if those apps don’t fill you up, stick around after the celebration for the kitchen to open up so you can grab some of their celebrated pub fare such as The Lafayette, featuring locally raised roast beef, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers and pesto on ciabatta.
The pub also is pushing its Instagram account and will give away a $25 gift card to select participants once it builds up 4,000 followers. There's still time to make the cut, so be sure to check it out.
Long heralded as one of the first businesses to kick-start the revitalization effort of Easton’s business scene, the pub has become a quintessential element of the community.
The Pipers have promised just about everything that has made the spot a landmark will remain the same.
“I can rest easy, I can look forward to coming in here as a customer and not having the concerns of an owner and just come in and have a good time, which I'm really looking forward to.”Larry Porter
“The pub is very endearing to us, and so our number one priority is to continue the legacy that the brothers have built,” Christine Piper said.
“And we feel really blessed that they've passed the torch to us.”
Keep an eye out for the Porters, as well, as they’ve made it clear they’ll be back to enjoy a pint without the pressure of running the business.
“I can rest easy, I can look forward to coming in here as a customer and not having the concerns of an owner and just come in and have a good time, which I'm really looking forward to,” Larry Porter said.
