EASTON, Pa. — It may be time for more Halloween-oriented productions, but auditions are opening up for dancers to partake in a production of the NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet in Easton this winter.

In a partnership with the Pennsylvania Classical Ballet Academy, the production will host open auditions for local children to participate in the performance scheduled for Nov. 25 at the State Theater.

Dancers aged six to 17 are welcome to audition through NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet’s unique “Dance with Us” program.

The team at Talmi Entertainment will bring together 75 world-renowned ballet artists from 16 ballet capitals in an effort that transcends geographical boundaries to present this spectacle of unity for this holiday season, with 86 North American cities on the tour itinerary.

Auditions will be held by the company’s audition director, who also serves as a company soloist and director of the initial rehearsals. After the audition, the director will conduct an initial rehearsal with selected dancers.

The auditions are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Pennsylvania Classical Ballet Academy, located at 1716 Washington Avenue in Northampton.

NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet is well known for its Broadway-level production with some of the top theatrical designers from around the world featuring the artistry of scenic designers, prop builders and puppeteers from Czechoslovakia, South Africa, Chuvash, St. Petersburg and New York.

The show’s marionettes, crafted in the image of the Nutcracker’s beloved characters Clara, Drosselmeyer, Kissy Doll and Harlequin, were created by Petre Puppeteer using three-dimensional modeling and printing.

South African creature builder and puppeteer Roger Titley – known for War Horse – crafted the flock of doves for the production, in addition to the firebird and peacock.

Credit for the reimagining of the puppets goes to legendary set director Nino Novellino, and the puppets themselves were crafted with the most modern, lightweight techniques.

The ballet also features costumes by Arthur Oliver, and hand-painted feature drops by scenic designer Carl Sprague, a frequent concept illustrator for filmmaker Wes Anderson.

The final spectacle and centerpiece of the last act features a Christmas tree, handcrafted by European artisans, that grows to 100 feet.

Tickets for the show are available now via the production’s website, or by calling 800-320-1733 for special group pricing.
