EASTON, Pa. — Rod’s Dogs is set to return to the Easton Public Market under new ownership in the coming weeks, continuing a menu of hot dogs, burgers and familiar flavors.

Palmer Township resident Jack Wallaesa, great-nephew and namesake of late Major League Baseball shortstop Jack Wallaesa, will take the reins of what has become a community institution.

“Rod’s Dogs has always been about good food, good people and community pride. All the classics will remain — we’re simply keeping the legacy alive.”

Rod’s Dogs originally opened in October 2021, with owners Mike and Rebecca Pichetto converting their former space — which housed Full of Crepe — into an old-fashioned hot dog spot that appeared to spring right out of the last century.

Rod's was known for the classic ripper — a Northern New Jersey-style hot dog deep-fried until it practically bursts out of the casing.

But it also offered brats, chicken dogs and even vegan fare, in addition to their burgers and other casual fare.

The shop closed its doors in September, as the general manager left, with the Pichettos expecting to reopen within a month or so.

But Wallaesa changed the game, pitching the Pichettos on a new operation with all the comforts of classic Rod’s.

Wallaesa said he intends to honor the stand’s history and keep its well-known identity intact.

“Rod’s Dogs has always been about good food, good people and community pride,” Wallaesa said.

“All the classics will remain — we’re simply keeping the legacy alive.”

'Next chapter of beloved market vendor'

In a release, Greater Easton Development Partnership said Wallaesa, who has longstanding family ties to Easton, represents a new generation of local business ownership.

Wallaesa said taking over Rod’s Dogs feels like “stepping into the batter’s box — with respect for what came before and excitement for what comes next.”

“We’re thrilled to see Jack take the helm. His connection to the community and commitment to Easton make him the right fit to lead Rod’s Dogs into its next chapter.”

GEDP Executive Director Jared Mast said the market is eager to see Rod’s Dogs resume operations.

“Rod’s Dogs has been a customer favorite at the Easton Public Market,” Mast said.

“We’re thrilled to see Jack take the helm. His connection to the community and commitment to Easton make him the right fit to lead Rod’s Dogs into its next chapter.”

Once the stand reopens, customers can expect the same quality and friendly service that helped make the spot a staple, officials said.

"It's exciting to usher in the next chapter of a beloved market vendor,” GEDP Market Manager Emily Roland said.

“Rod's Dogs has appealed to all tastes, ages, and price points, with something on the menu for everyone. It's hard to think of a better combination than burger, fries, and a shake."

"Welcome, Jack. I'm sure you'll knock this out of the park."
