Mustache the cat was missing for more than a month before residents of South Side Easton located the furry friend.

EASTON, Pa. — A wily kitty who captured the hearts of the Lehigh Valley when he went on a surprise vacation adventure throughout Easton has died, his owner confirmed early Friday morning.

Moustache — pronounced “Moo-stosh,” as he was a fancy boy with the facial markings to match, became a local celebrity when he escaped his family’s vehicle on a stop in Easton after returning from a vacation in Virginia.

Moustache was rescued by a dedicated group of South Side Eastonians and Elaine Bender of FURR — Feline Urban Rescue and Rehab — last summer.

Early Friday morning, Parks shared a post on the Easton PA Facebook page, explaining he had passed away at age 6.

“My sweet boy passed on this evening at the young age of six. I will be forever thankful to the Easton Community for helping bring him home to me. He will be remembered forever and always loved.”

“Unfortunately this evening Moustache’s back legs went limp, completely paralyzed,' the post reads.

"I rushed him to the emergency vet. Moustache had a blood clot in his aorta. In this circumstance there was nothing they could do for him and if they were able to remove the clot his back legs would remain paralyzed for the remainder of his life.

“My sweet boy passed on this evening at the young age of six. I will be forever thankful to the Easton Community for helping bring him home to me. He will be remembered forever and always loved.

“I thought I would share as I felt he was also loved by the town of Easton.

“Rest easy my sweet Moustache.”

Reactions pour in

Parks and her family lost their beloved little feline when he jumped from their car in a lot near Interstate 78. Despite hours of searching, they eventually were forced to return to their home in Maine, heartbroken.

But thanks to the efforts of the Easton Post PA Facebook page, South Side Easton cat lovers and Bender, Moustache was located and trapped in June, and soon returned to his family.

Moustache’s edgy antics earned him a spot as a scrappy little celebrity across the Lehigh Valley and beyond, warming hearts with his safe return to Parks and her family in June.

Parks’s post has seen hundreds of reactions and comments as of Friday morning, with people sharing their sympathies and love for Moustache and his adventuring spirit.

“So sorry for your loss of sweet Moustache. He became part of our community and hearts,” Lee Ann Smith Kubbishun wrote.

“He got the opportunity for more adventure and to touch more lives than some people get. He was a very special cat. I'm sorry for your loss,” Carmen Abrazado wrote.
