Easton preps for prix fixe paradise: Restaurant Week is coming

Get ready for the return of Restaurant Week in Easton, which will feature over 20 eateries this year. Locations like Kabinett Wine Bar are offering up some special dishes and treats, including the pictured "Bienenstich," featuring a honey cake with custard, almonds, apricot and toffee.

EASTON, Pa. — Restaurant Week will return to Easton with a wide variety of haute cuisine fit for just about every palate in the Lehigh Valley.

But the excitement is starting early with plenty of support for local charitable organizations.

Easton Restaurant Week is set to begin Sunday, July 16, offering seven days of diverse summer dining options throughout the city, including old favorites and new eateries spanning breakfast to brunch and everything between.

The event, which is supported by title sponsor KLYR Rum and community sponsors Vinyl Press Signs and Graphics, The Glovas Gutierrez Morrow Group at Morgan Stanley, and Maverick Media, features numerous restaurants across the city presenting fixed-price, multi-course menus and specialty cocktails.

“The idea is being able to draw people into Easton to try all of the cuisines that we have here, not just in the downtown area, but in the outskirts as well. It kind of feels like Easton is becoming a little bit of a culinary Mecca, and so we want to invite people to come and try and give them a reason to eat.”

“We put together each Restaurant Week, twice a year. So in January and July, all local restaurants are invited to join, they choose to participate or not. And then what we ask is they put together a fixed menu at a fixed prices so people can try different restaurants knowing kind of food they're going into and what they're going to be paying,” Christine Piper, partner and president of Maverick Media in Easton, said.

Piper said she hopes the event will inspire Eastonians to get out and explore the plethora of culinary adventures which can be had in their city.

“The idea is being able to draw people into Easton to try all of the cuisines that we have here, not just in the downtown area, but in the outskirts as well. It kind of feels like Easton is becoming a little bit of a culinary Mecca, and so we want to invite people to come and try and give them a reason to eat,” Piper said.

Hankering for some Cajun cuisine? How about fish? Maybe some contemporary American favorites? Or perhaps something a bit more exotic? Easton Restaurant Week has you covered.

For those looking for some hearty Italian fare, indulge at Stoke Coal Fire Pizza and Bar, Easton’s landmark Colonial Pizza and Spaghetti House, Sette Luna, and Antonio’s Pizzeria and Restaurant.

For a chance to dive into something new, freshman Restaurant Week participants Kabinett Wine Bar and 1001 Thai are ready to serve up fresh offerings for regular Restaurant Week attendees.

Kabinett co-owner Jason Hoy said his restaurant, which encompasses a broad palette spanning German and Australian cuisine, will pique fine diners’ curiosity with a 'delectable' selection of new dishes.

“We're starting with our burrata salads, which is heirloom tomatoes, sourdough, and burrata,” Kabinett co-owner Jason Hoy said. “We're doing schnitzels, we're doing duck pasta, and we're doing vegetarian dishes as well for people that aren't sure about if they can do Restaurant Week, and then we're doing a couple of classic desserts that we serve in the restaurant as well, one of which is called a ‘Bienenstich,’ which is a honey cake with custard and almonds, and apricot, and toffee.”

For diners looking for something a bit spicier, flavorful dishes at Aman’s Artisan Indian Cuisine and Tierra de Fuego have it covered.

Seafood fanatics can find a variety of offerings from River Grille, Marblehead Chowder House, and 3rd and Ferry Fish Market.

Restaurant Week even has some prime options for the plant-based crowd, including vegan and vegetarian options at Porters’ Pub and Restaurant, Black and Blue, and yes, even Lehigh Valley BBQ.

This year, a few locations are even offering up breakfast and brunch at several spots, such as Quadrant Book Mart and Coffee House and Billy’s Downtown Diner.

No matter where you go, you can count on getting a specially-prepared meal highlighting the talents of numerous chefs from across the city, all of whom are looking to offer their very best.

“We're looking to showcase just how high quality our food is,” Hoy said. “We think we’re one of the best restaurants not just in Easton, but in the Lehigh Valley, probably one of the best fine dining restaurants. To get a restaurant menu that's cheaper than typical restaurants, we’re in a great position to really share and show people what we can do.”

On top of all the hearty eats, Restaurant Week is also exploring a new option to help out the community which houses the eateries, celebrating the people and places which bring everyone together.

“So what we've done this year is we've added on our website merchandise that people can purchase, and a portion of all the proceeds is being donated to Third Street Alliance,” Piper said.

Those looking for some fresh clothes proclaiming their status as a “foodie,” or declaring Restaurant Week puts the “eat in Easton,” can check out the shop, and help support the shelter for women and children and other Third Street programs.
