Easton Farmers' Market drew quiet a crowd for its birthday bash last year. It's now celebrating its 272nd birthday this year.

EASTON, Pa. — Looking to take a moment to just enjoy Easton this weekend?

Sandwiched right in-between Independence Day and Heritage Day, the Easton Farmers’ Market will celebrate its 272nd birthday with all the trimmings – cake, music, proclamations, and more – honoring “the importance and longevity of one of the region’s most enduring, resilient, and cherished institutions” this Saturday, July 6.

Easton Farmers’ Market holds the title of the country’s oldest continuous open-air market in the country, and has been a destination for fresh, locally grown, and prepared foods since before the American Revolution.

“The market’s birthday is a tribute to the farmers, bakers, and makers who have been bringing their locally grown food and wares to Easton for well over two centuries,”

“The market’s birthday is a tribute to the farmers, bakers, and makers who have been bringing their locally grown food and wares to Easton for well over two centuries,” Market District Director Megan McBride said.

“It’s a testament to the people of Easton, who fought to maintain the market and provide the support needed for the market to grow and thrive.”

Highlights for the event will include a 10 a.m. presentation by Mayor Sal Panto Jr., Representative Bob Freeman, and the Bachmann Players. Following that, the city will celebrate the big day by singing “Happy Birthday” and offering up free cake from Mia & Maddie’s Baker and Tomblers Bakery.

And if you happen to bring your pup along with you, there will be a special canine cake as well.

Toasting 272 years of farm-fresh food and community, Weyerbacher’s will showcase their limited edition Easton Farmers’ Market label 1752 Saison beer. Attendees can also enter to win a free six-pack of the specialty brew, along with market tokens.

Marketgoers can enjoy live music presented by C.F. Martin Guitar Co. featuring Small Axe from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will also be free face painting and balloon art for children, and a collection of photos illustrating the history of the Easton Farmers’ Market will be put on display.

Guest vendors for the July 6 market will include Agamon Bakery, Earthen Goat, Easton Candle Co., Daughter of the Charm, Gracie Woodworks, Invertase Brewing, Mona’s Bakery, River Valley Community Grains, Social Still, Soulead, and UrbanBohoChic Jewelry.

A program of the nonprofit Greater Easton Development Partnership, the Easton Farmers’ Market is presented by Capital Blue and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday from May through December at Scott Park along Larry Holmes Drive.

The market features 50 vendors across the park which is bordered by the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers.

Free parking for the Easton Farmers’ Market will be available in the two lots adjacent to Scott Park, thanks to Riverstar Properties and the Law Offices of Florio-Perrucci.

Vendors accept cash, credit, Venmo, PayPal, checks and EBT.

“On our birthday, we celebrate the city’s rich heritage and today’s bountiful market where more than 3,000 people gather every Saturday to share their passion for local food and community,”

Those using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are welcome at the market, and Philadelphia-based The Food Trust even offers to double purchases up to $10 through the use of Food Bucks for fruits and veggies when shoppers spend at least $2 using SNAP at all three markets.
