Ken Greene has announced his run for Easton City Council.

EASTON, Pa. – After serving on Easton's Planning Commission for three years, including two as chairman, G. Kennedy "Ken" Greene has announced his candidacy for city council.

“I believe Easton City Council needs strong leadership that is future-focused toward helping our city reach its highest potential," Green said in a news release.

"That means working hard to harness the opportunity to build upon the unique history of each of Easton’s neighborhoods. We must work together to increase our resident population and support economic growth.”

There are three open positions on the council: Two seats are up for election, and one is left vacant by Peter Melan, who has announced he is a candidate for Easton mayor.
Greene has worked in the education field for 35 years and acted as superintendent of schools in Sussex County, N.J.

Greene announced his retirement as acting superintendent in June. He now consults in the education field and is an adjunct professor of school finance at Columbia University.

Greene has also been treasurer of Friends of Easton PA, a nonprofit organization that works for "a vibrant, safe, clean, walkable environment" in Easton.

He has been endorsed by Easton Mayor Sal Panto Jr.

Previously announced

Greene joins others who previously announced races for Easton council seats.

Frank Pintabone, who served on the Easton Area School Board for six years, announced in December he was seeking the open seat on the council.

Pintabone has served on the city planning commission since February.

He said he advocates for a trolley system to connect Easton’s four neighborhoods and would push for a full-service grocery store in the West Ward and a “crackdown” on absentee landlords.

Pintabone, who runs Integrity Lawncare & Landscape LLC, is a fourth-generation Eastonian.

Other election bids

Council seats held by David O’Connell and Ken Brown also are up for election. Both have announced they will seek re-election.

Brown first was elected to the council in November 2003. If re-elected, he would be serving his fourth term.

As for O’Connell, he has been on the council since 2015 and was most recently re-elected in 2019.

Both Brown and O’Connell have stated that they will seek more affordable housing for Easton.

Earlier this month, Easton City Controller Chris Heagele also announced his re-election bid.

Panto's mayoral term is also ending this year. He has not announced a formal re-election bid.
