EASTON, Pa. — An Easton youth who was nominated for a Children’s and Family Emmy Award for the role he plays in a hit Netflix series lost out Sunday to an actress on a Peacock Network show.
Ja’Siah Young, who is 11, stars as the title character in the show "Raising Dion," which also was up for three other awards, but came away empty-handed.
Ja'Siah's co-star on "Raising Dion" — Sammi Haney, who plays Esperanza on the show — like Ja'Siah was nominated for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program.
Both lost to Quinn Copeland, who plays Izzy on the Peacock channel's "Punky Brewster."
The awards were presented at a ceremony Sunday in Los Angeles.
"Raising Dion" also was nominated for Outstanding Children's of Family Viewing Series, but lost out to the Netflix series "The Baby-Sitters Club."
Technical awards, given out at a separate Los Angeles ceremony Saturday, saw "Raising Dion" lose the award for Outstanding Visual Effects for a Live Action Program to the Hulu show "Endlings.
It also was up for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Live Action Program, won by Nickelodeon's "Danger Force;" and for Outstanding Sound Mixing and Sound Editing for a Live Action Program, which went to the show "Sweet Tooth" on Netflix.
On "Raising Dion," Ja'Siah plays Dion Warren, a young boy coming into his superpowers.
On the show, his dad is Michael B. Jordan, of "Black Panther" fame. Jason Ritter of "Gravity Falls" plays his godfather. Rome Flynn is his mentor.
The show premiered in October 2019, and in February was renewed for a second season.
