LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — East Penn School District officials warned Friday that part of Lower Macungie Road will close starting next week, causing delays for students in transit.
State workers will close a bridge carrying Lower Macungie Road over the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Oct. 13 through Oct. 27 to complete tie-ins for a new bridge.
The work will be part of the Turnpike widening project.
Nearby, Little Spur Road will close from Oct. 13 to Nov. 24 to accommodate the project.
Many school bus drivers, families and students use the bridge to travel to and from school, the district said.

"All school bus routes that typically use Lower Macungie Road will be affected by this closure," the district wrote in a Facebook post Friday.
"Detours will be in effect and we ask you to please be patient as we expect there may be some delays in both the morning and afternoon.
"Anyone who drives students to school should plan for a longer commute and use the official posted detour routes. Drivers should consider leaving earlier than usual to ensure timely arrival at school.
"Please plan ahead, follow posted detours and exercise patience during this road improvement project."
