EMMAUS, Pa. — East Penn Schools Superintendent Kristen Campbell has been officially approved for a new five-year term, along with a new contract after Monday's School Board meeting.

The new term begins on July 1 this year and ends June 30, 2028.

  • East Penn Superintendent Kristen Campbell has been approved for a five-year term under a new contract
  • The contract sets a salary of $187,000 through next year, with the potential for annual increases
  • Assistant superintendents also were reappointed for a 3-5 year term, with details to be determined

The contract sets an annual salary of $187,000 through June 30, 2024. Afterward, that compensation will be increased based on an annual evaluation process.
The lead administrator has a wide variety of responsibilities in the district, including directing daily operations, supervising and coordinating staff and overseeing curricular reviews.

The contract states that the board will evaluate Campbell's performance annually based on various leadership goals set between Campbell and the board and the ability to meet state standards.

Goals stated in the contract include Campbell's ability to provide leadership for the implementation of equitable educational opportunities for all students in the district, leadership in the planning and implementation of programs that develop K-12 student wellness, support for the development of a district infrastructure sustainability plan and facilitating the implementation of a robust communication and public relations program for the district.

'A challenging five years'

At a meeting in March, the board voted to extend her term for 3-5 years, with contract information to be determined.

She's in her 28th year at East Penn and initially was hired as superintendent under a five-year contract in 2018 following the retirement of Superintendent Michael Schilder at a salary of $157,000

In her five years in the top job, Campbell led the administration through the education challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It certainly has been a challenging five years," Campbell said. "We recognize that we have challenges ahead. We are really excited for the work that is ahead and I think we have a great team in place that's ready to roll up our sleeves and do that work."

The board also voted to reappoint assistant superintendents Douglas Povilaitis and Laura Witman for a term of 3-5 years.

All three motions involving the appointments passed unanimously.
