The Lehigh County coroner said an Emmaus man died Sunday following a bonfire accident.

UPPER MILFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An Emmaus man died Sunday from severe burns suffered four days earlier in a bonfire accident, authorities said.

Julian Diaz, 18, was burned by a bonfire that was ignited by an accelerant (gasoline), the Lehigh County Coroner's Office said in a release Monday.

The incident occurred about 12: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, in the 5000 block of South Mountain Drive, the coroner’s office said.

Diaz suffered complications of 84% total body surface area burns by the fire.

The coroner’s office ruled the death accidental.

The incident is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit.

"At this time, for the integrity of the investigation, no further information is going to be made public," Trooper Nathan Branosky said via email Monday.
