The officer-involved shooting with the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team happened about 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, in the 2800 block of Rockdale Road in North Whitehall Township.

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - A man shot by police during a standoff outside a North Whitehall Township residence Saturday has died, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Daniel Buglio did not release the identity of the 27-year-old but said he died as a result of gunshot injuries sustained in an officer-involved shooting.

It happened about 2 p.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of Rockdale Road in North Whitehall, state police said.

According to state police, a member of the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team shot the man after the man fired a gun from his vehicle and pointed it at officers.

Troopers were called around 11 a.m. Saturday for a disturbance involving a man with a gun, they said. When they arrived, they found him in the driver’s seat of a car parked in a driveway.

State police said he had a handgun and troopers tried to talk him into getting out of the vehicle without incident.

He allegedly fired the gun more than once and pointed the gun at police several times.

The man was treated at the scene and taken by Northern Valley EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, Buglio said.

State police said there were no injuries to law enforcement.

An autopsy is set for Tuesday.

“The decedent has been identified and his family has been notified,” Buglio said in a statement. “His identity will not be released at this time so the family may grieve their loss privately."

Besides the coroner’s office, Buglio said, investigating are Pennsylvania State Police, the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
