ALLENTOWN, Pa. — State prosecutors are set to lead cases against two former Allentown vice officers charged with rape, prostitution and other felonies.
Suspended Sgt. Evan Weaver, 46, of Weisenberg Township, and former city cop Jason Krasley, 48, of Upper Milford Township, have had numerous hearings since their arrests in January.
Weaver faces eight charges related to an incident alleged to have occurred in May 2011, while Krasley faces more than 30 charges stemming from alleged assaults in 2011, 2015 and 2018.
The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that it relinquished those cases to the Pennsylvania Attorney’s General’s Office due to a potential conflict of interest.
A spokesperson for the district attorney did not provide any details about that potential conflict.
Weaver and Krasley are free on bail; prosecutors this year failed with a bid to revoke the officers' bail because they could face life sentences if convicted on all charges.
Weaver’s bail was set at $900,000. Krasley’s bail amounts total more than $1 million, according to court records.
They are both due back in Lehigh County court Oct. 10.
Lehigh County prosecutors will continue to lead a theft case against Krasley, according to the statement.
Krasley is accused of stealing more than $5,000 during a 2019 search at a city barbershop. A pretrial hearing in that case is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
