An investigation is underway into a shooting in Catasauqua Borough tied to a car theft.

CATASAUQUA, Pa. — An investigation is underway into a shooting in the borough tied to an attempted theft of a car, authorities say.

The incident happened in the early morning hours Tuesday when the suspected car thief was interrupted by a resident who brandished a firearm, according to a news release from the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.

The resident fired a number of rounds at the suspect, striking the person at least once, according to the release.

The victim of the gunfire fled the area with what appeared to be non-fatal injuries and was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle.

The victim still was in the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Catasauqua Borough Police are leading the investigation, with assistance from the State Police Forensics Services Unit and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
