ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An Allentown employee accused of putting a noose on her own desk is scheduled to be arraigned this month in Lehigh County Court.

She’s due to appear in Courtroom 2D on June 17 for her formal arraignment on misdemeanor charges of making a false report and tampering with evidence.

Brown in April waived her first preliminary hearing in magisterial district court and was released on unsecured bail of $1,000, court records show.

She is accused of falsely reporting that she found a noose Jan. 10 on her desk in the city’s Department of Community and Economic Development.

That sparked an investigation by Allentown police and FBI agents. Authorities said they determined Brown was the only person to touch the noose after obtaining her DNA through a search warrant.

She was the only employee with access to her desk that did not provide a voluntary DNA sample, police said.

State Police investigators found only Brown’s DNA on the noose.

Brown told authorities in January that she touched the item after she didn’t immediately recognize it as a noose.

Brown is an Allentown School Board member whose term ends this year; she did not seek re-election in last month’s primary.
