Former fire chief arrested for embezzlement

SALISBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A former fire chief was arrested and charged with embezzling thousands of dollars from his fire station, according to a news release from the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.

David J. Tomcics, 40, was charged with two felonies for allegedly stealing more than $11,000 from the Eastern Salisbury Fire Company.

A two-year investigation found Tomcics allegedly altered fire department purchase orders, wrote unauthorized checks and used the department’s credit card for unauthorized purchases.

According to the news release, several coworkers turned documents over to the police after noticing inconsistencies with financial records.

At the time, Tomcics was president of the department and worked a paid bookkeeping position.

He resigned from the fire department in January 2020.
