Pennsylvania State Police say they are investigating after the occupant of one car shot into another on Route 22.

WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - State police are investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday on Route 22.

It happened around 3:15 p.m. in the highway's eastbound lanes, near MacArthur Road, authorities said.

State police said the driver of a white Dodge Charger was in the left lane and was shot at by the occupant of a vehicle in the right lane.

The Charger driver was wounded and taken to a hospital with injuries, according to state police. They did not elaborate on the severity of the driver's injuries.

Authorities closed part of the highway during the investigation, then shut down both eastbound lanes between 15th Street and MacArthur Road around 5:30 p.m., said Trooper Nathan Branosky.

State police say witnesses or people with information should contact the Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Criminal Investigation Unit in Bethlehem at 610-861-2026.

"Someone may have seen something and we're asking them to come forward," Branosky said.

Whitehall Township police said in a tweet that the injured driver drove to the MacArthur Road north exit.

"Troopers arrived and help was rendered," said Branosky, who wouldn't elaborate on the extent of the victim's injuries.
