PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers and a man they were helping were killed early Monday morning in Philadelphia after they were struck by a vehicle along Interstate 95.
Troopers Martin F. Mack III, 33, and Branden Sisca, 29, died about 1 a.m.
Police said they were helping a man who was found walking along the highway near the stadiums in South Philadelphia when all three were struck.
State police Capt. James Kemm said the officers were helping the man, who police has not yet identified, into a cruiser when they were struck.
“A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck all three individuals—Trooper Sisca, Trooper Mack and an unidentified male—right now. The impact was so great that it threw the troopers over into the northbound lanes of Interstate 95,” Kemm said.
A female suspect remained at the scene after the incident, Kemm said, and a DUI investigation is ongoing.
Trooper Mack had been a member of the force since 2014 and Sisca enlisted in February 2021.
Gov. Tom Wolf noted the loss during an event on Monday and has ordered that the state flag at all public buildings be flown at half-staff until sunset Friday.
“This is a very sad day for Pennsylvania,” Wolf said, “There are three families mourning the loss of loved ones. Their friends are mourning those losses, colleagues, all of us.”
