LOWER SAUCON TWP, Pa. - Mark and Patricia McCloskey - indicted this week for brandishing weapons toward protesters in St. Louis this summer - spoke at a rally in Lower Saucon Township last month. But their visit is still getting attention.
The Northampton County Republican Committee rented a pavilion at Town Hall Park to host the event. And as WLVR’s Ben Stemrich reports, residents are wondering if the rally violated permit rules.
During a virtual township council meeting this week, one resident said she felt threatened while in the park the night of the McCloskey event.
Others said the crowd size exceeded the 200-person limit on pavilion rentals. Attendees also carried Trump signs and flags that night, but park rules forbid displaying political materials.
Sharp exchanges were made as some council members questioned the vagueness and enforcement of the policy.
The council ultimately tabled any move to change the rules. But officials said they don’t expect any similar events in the three weeks remaining in the rental season.
