HARRISBURG — How do you properly celebrate the birthday of the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association?

With ice cream instead of cake, of course, and a delicious new milkshake flavor coming to the PA Farm Show.

  • The Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association is celebrating 70 years with a brand new milkshake flavor
  • It will be available at pop-up events through December, with the first 50 fans at each event getting a free shake. The Farm Show also will have a food-only day on Jan. 6.
  • The PA Farm Show runs Jan. 7-14, 2023

The orange cream milkshake will make its debut to fans during pre-Farm Show celebrations this month, joining classic flavors vanilla, chocolate and a twist, a news release said.

Fans can find the new shake at special pop-up events dubbed “Milkshakes on the Moo-ve,” with the first 50 people at each event getting to try it for free.

These dates and locations are currently scheduled:

  • Friday, Dec. 9, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., West Shore Plaza, 1200 Market St., Lemoyne, (directly across from Karns Foods)/ 70th Birthday Milkshake Toast at 10:45 a.m. with PA Dairy Princesses and other Special Guests
  • Saturday, Dec. 10, 11a.m. - 4 p.m., Stauffers of Kissel Hill Fresh Foods, 1050 Lititz Pike, Lititz
  • Friday, Dec. 16, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Cross Roads Sale & Market, 5415 PA-25, Gratz  
  • Saturday, Dec. 17, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Karns Foods, 6001 Allentown Boulevard, Harrisburg,
  • Thursday, Dec. 22, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Kennie’s Markets, 217 West Middle Street, Gettysburg  

The PA Farm Show opens with a food court-only day on Jan. 6, with the full event running Jan. 7-14, 2023.

The Dairymen will offer other bites at the event, including fried mozzarella cubes, grilled cheese sandwiches and cheese stix, along with fresh white and chocolate milk.

“What a thrill it is each year to see so many smiles throughout the agricultural showcase as our dairy farmers welcome families and attendees to experience an inside glimpse of our farms and the Commonwealth’s world-class dairy industry,” PA Dairymen’s Executive Director Dave Smiths said in the release.

“We are grateful to everyone who has supported us and all of our philanthropic projects over the decades.”

The popular Farm Show milkshakes also have popped up at the Emmaus Farmers Market the last few summers.
