ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Certain small appliances turned over to PPL Electric Utilities during an upcoming event could net customers $25 per unit, the company announced on Thursday.
PPL will hold a small appliance recycling event, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at PPL’s Walbert Training Center, 1639 Church Road, Allentown.
Event registration at PPL's website is required to participate.
It will accept room air conditioners and dehumidifiers in working condition, according to a release, with the goal of removing inefficient electric load from the grid.
PPL staff will unload appliances from customers’ cars during the event, with a $25 rebate per unit.
Dropoffs only will be accepted for those with an active electric account from PPL Electric Utilities, the release said.
Donations for Second Harvest accepted
In addition, the company also will accept donations of non-perishable food items to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast PA.
Because of deep federal cuts to food aid programs and delayed state funding from a budget impasse, Second Harvest has faced difficulty meeting the needs of pantries and soup kitchens throughout the region.
It’s estimated one in eight Pennsylvanians is food insecure.
Meanwhile, demand for food aid has only grown.
Community members are encouraged to bring canned foods, packaged foods or personal care items to donate.
The items should not require refrigeration, and all items should be recently purchased and in good condition.
