The Giant Company is ending its e-commerce fulfillment service, Giant Direct, in Pennsylvania, closing five centralized distribution centers by April 2026.

COOPERSBURG, Pa. — Giant Company food stores will close its Coopersburg fulfillment center, Giant Direct — affecting 104 workers, a notice filed with labor officials says.

A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN notice, filed in January says the company will close the fulfillment center at 216 East Fairmont St. effective March 13.

Two other centers in Montgomery County also will close this by the end of April, affecting almost 200 workers.

"We've learned over the past few years that there isn't a one size fits all approach to our e-commerce business, particularly in our fulfillment model."

"We've learned over the past few years that there isn't a one size fits all approach to our e-commerce business, particularly in our fulfillment model," a Giant spokesperson said.

"After careful review, the decision was made to transition fully to store-based fulfillment and discontinue centralized fulfillment."

In total, Giant will close five e-commerce central fulfillment centers in Island Avenue, Willow Grove, Coopersburg, North Coventry and Lancaster.

Two WARN notices for Giant Direct locations in Philadelphia and Lancaster also were filed last month.

"Upon the completion of the transition, Giant Direct orders will be picked by store team members in area store" and delivered by a third-party provider such as Instacart or DoorDash, the spokesperson said.

The company said that benefits it anticipates from the change are faster delivery times, expanded assortment and in-store pricing.

It said it also expects shorter delivery windows and the ability to make order changes up to 2-3 hours before the delivery window.

"E-commerce remains an important segment of our business strategy and key to our future omnichannel growth," the spokesperson said.

"We remain committed to providing an outstanding experience to our customers by offering speedy delivery, more delivery windows, broad product assortment and value."
