SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — The science of freeze-drying has transformed a number of foods that have found their way into the hands of teen entrepreneur Aubrie Sink.

From Lucky Charms Marshmallows and gummy worms to fruit roll ups and peach rings, the 16-year-old Sink is bringing a unique texture and taste to all kinds of treats through her company Freezin’ with Aubrie.

Now, the teen from Northern Kentucky has targeted Butterscotch Krimpets — yes, those of Tastykake snack cakes fame — to bring an exclusive snack to the Lehigh Valley.

Dorney Park has partnered with Freezin’ with Aubrie to create exclusive freeze-dried Krimpets, a release said Monday, giving park guests a different way to enjoy the nostalgic treat.

The science of freeze drying

Freeze-drying is a dehydration technique that requires special equipment to make foods shelf stable and help them maintain their taste and smell.

According to the USDA, the food must then be packaged in moisture-proof, hermetically sealed containers or bags.

“We are thrilled to partner with Aubrie to bring her creative spin on freeze-dried Krimpets to Dorney Park.”

The Krimpets sold at Dorney Park will come in 3.2-ounce moisture-barrier bags.

They’ll be available at several locations in the park, including Good Time Gifts, Sweet Spot and Steel Yard Gifts, Dorney Public Relations and Communications Manager Ryan Eldredge said.

“We are thrilled to partner with Aubrie to bring her creative spin on freeze-dried Krimpets to Dorney Park,” Eldredge said.

The teen also has deals with other parks operated by Dorney’s parent company, including Kings Island, Cedar Point, Carowinds, Michigan’s Adventure and Knott’s Berry Farm.

Dorney adds to its offerings

The announcement comes as Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom continues adding to its offerings this season.

Dorney soon will hold “Summer Nights,” an immersive Caribbean and Latin American celebration offering authentic food and entertainment.

Summer Nights will begin on Friday, July 12, and run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Aug. 18. The events will start at 5 p.m. and run until the park closes.
