Publishing company announces layoffs at Lehigh County plant

The notice was filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN, which gives employees 60-days notice of mass layoffs or plant closures.

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — A publishing company will lay off 260 people from its local operation, it said in a notice filed with the state Department of Labor and Industry.

Lightning Source LLC, a subsidiary of Ingram Content Group, gave notice of a series of layoffs at its 860 Nestle Way, Breinigsville location.

The layoffs will start April 14 and continue through December, according to the notice, which was filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN.
WARN is intended to give gives employees 60 days notice of mass layoffs or plant closures. It's required for layoffs of 500 people or more, or if the layoff represents at least a third of a company’s workforce.

The schedule for the layoffs are:

  • 04/14 – 11 Employees
  • 05/05 – 20 Employees
  • 06/17 – 40 Employees
  • 07/07 – 20 Employees
  • 08/04 – 20 Employees
  • 09/08 – 20 Employees
  • 10/06 – 20 Employees
  • 11/03 – 69 Employees
  • 12/29 – 40 Employees

According to the answering machine at Ingram Content Group headquarters, Lightning Source is being absorbed by IngramSpark.
Lightning Source, based in LaVergne, Tenn., calls itself "the leading print-on-demand company in the world, offering quality one-off book manufacturing and access to the most comprehensive distribution solutions in the publishing industry."

“Ingram Content Group (“Ingram”) recently announced the expansion of its distribution center in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to become a co-located, state-of-the-art print-on-demand and distribution center," said the company in an emailed statement.

"As a result of this strategic investment, Ingram’s longtime Allentown, Pennsylvania print-on-demand facility will officially close on November 1, 2023, with the last date of employment for Allentown associates being December 31, 2023. Current associates of the Allentown facility have been notified of the pending closure, and Ingram has offered relocation opportunities and/or severance and outplacement assistance to all Allentown associates. Ingram is grateful for the contribution and dedication of all Allentown associates, many of whom have chosen to relocate to the Chambersburg facility.”
