BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Valley Youth House has received a $1 million gift from the Lehigh Valley-based Topper Foundation.

Valley Youth House President Tom Harrington said the money will go toward the nonprofit organization's endowment fund, sustaining the longevity of "life-changing" programs that Valley Youth House offers.

"The Topper Foundation has been a steadfast supporter of Valley Youth House for many years," Valley Youth House said in a news release.

"This remarkable gift is a testament to the Topper Foundation’s unwavering commitment to our mission."

Valley Youth House provides emergency services such as street outreach, shelters and supportive housing; life skills training; school-based counseling; family-based behavioral health services; and an outdoor adventure camp.

Valley Youth House's endowment fund financially aids: emergency needs, repairs and maintenance at the nonprofit's shelters, Camp Fowler and supervised independent living apartments and townhomes; and research-based programs.

The organization's annual report said it served 17,000 people in 14 counties across central, southeast and northeast Pennsylvania.

The donation stands out compared to numbers in the Valley Youth House's donor impact report.

"This remarkable gift is a testament to the Topper Foundation’s unwavering commitment to our mission," Harrington said in a statement.

"Their continuous support through various programs and initiatives has been invaluable. The foundation's leadership and commitment to Valley Youth House will significantly impact our ability to provide lasting support to the youth and families we serve."

Among 1,260 donors — they include individuals, businesses, community organizations, government grants and money from foundations and trusts — the nonprofit raised $19,712,705 last year. Of that, foundations and trusts made up $1,934,161.
