ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Lehigh County Historical Society got a boost from state Sen. Pat Browne (R-Lehigh) with the presentation of a $100,000 state grant.

“There’s a public purpose in historic preservation,” Browne said in an interview Thursday. “And Lehigh Valley has a tremendous history that’s important for generations to know why their communities are where they are. And why there are opportunities available to them because of the generations of work by people who came before them.”

  • State Sen. Pat Browne, R-Lehigh, has helped secure $100,000 for Lehigh County Historical Society
  • The funding will be used on historic property renovations and new programming
  • Browne said the fund will come from state funds set aside for community investment and historic preservation

Browne secured the funds set aside for community investment and historic preservation in the 2022-23 state budget.

“That group at the Lehigh County Historical Society is a first-rate group," Browne said. "No one is better at what they do. The energy they have and the passion they have for telling the story of the Lehigh Valley is unmatched.”

Browne’s office said the fund will let the group make improvements to the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum and “significant repairs to several historic sites, overseen by the society.”

That will include renovations to the 1756 Pennsylvania German Farmhouse at the Troxell-Steckel Farm and the 1893 one-room schoolhouse, Browne’s office said.

The grant, as Browne’s office noted, is expected to also assist the society in creating new programming and attracting new speakers.
