Lower Macungie Township’s planning commission voted Tuesday to recommend land development approval for a mixed-use project where the second phase of the Hamilton Crossings was set to go.

LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — Lower Macungie Township Planning Commission has voted to recommend approval for a 54-acre project that includes apartments, retail space, a hotel and more.

Planners voted Tuesday to support developer Lower Macungie Township Mixed Use Development LLC's plans a 318-unit apartment complex, a 160-room hotel and nearly 20,000 square feet of retail space.

“There are not that many issues with the internal part of the site that need to be addressed."

It would be at 617 N. Krocks Road, at the intersection with Route 222.

It also would boast a pool, walking paths, sports courts, a dog park and other amenities for residents.

First submitted for review in 2023, the project already received conditional use approval from Lower Macungie commissioners.

The site previously was set to become a second phase of the Hamilton Crossings development, across Route 222.

Development waivers still needed

Township planners and consultants did not raise major issues Tuesday with the plan as submitted.

“There are not that many issues with the internal part of the site that need to be addressed," township engineer Brian McAdam said.

"Certainly nothing that's going to change layout. As far as the land development portion of this, we have no objection if they were to get a recommendation tonight.”

The project would need six waivers for parts of the township’s land development ordinance; McAdam said he didn't see a problem with any.

The lot set to be developed lies in the highway commercial zone.

As part of the project, the developer will have to fund a new traffic light at Cetronia Road and Krocks Road.

A representative for the Diocese of Allentown told the planning commission that the project would not interfere with plans to add a new mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery, near the proposed development.

Lower Macungie’s board of commissioners will have the final say on whether to approve the plans.
