EASTON, Pa. — A popular Easton restaurant damaged by fire is getting ready to reopen.

The State Café and Grill – located at 14-16 S. 5th Street, just around the block from the State Theatre – will reopen on Thursday, Feb. 9.

  • The restaurant was damaged by a fire in the spring of 2022
  • Its known for its breakfast and lunch specials, including omelets, frittatas, quesadillas, pancakes and more

The restaurant suffered significant smoke and water damage when a fire broke out on its roof back on April 20, 2022.

Photos posted to social media later showed extensive structural repairs to the roof and to the building’s interior.

A mid-to-late September reopening was planned, but later pushed back. In the interim, the State Café and Grill held a breakfast pop-up event at the First Presbyterian Church of Easton and offered a limited menu of breakfast sandwiches, egg platters, house made cornbread and pancakes.

“What a huge outpouring of love today,” a Facebook post said on Sept. 17. “We can’t give enough thanks to all who came out … thank you very much for the kind words, well wishes and hugs. It was so nice to see all of you again, it’s been too long and we’ve missed you.”

The State Café and Grill also took part in Easton Garlic Fest in October, and on New Year’s Day said they were getting closer to reopening.

A message received from the restaurant Tuesday said, “There are still a few kinks to work out and we are hiring a few more people to fill the gaps.”

The restaurant is known for its breakfast and lunch specials, including omelets, frittatas, quesadillas, pancakes and more.

Prior to the fire, the State Café and Grill sourced from local vendors including Homestead Coffee Roasters, the Easton Salsa Company, Bank Street Creamery, Scholl Orchards and more.

It also teamed up with Breakaway Farms for a fundraiser, selling a sausage, kale and potato soup and donating $5 per bowl to Ukrainian refugee relief.
