SALISBURY TWP., Pa. - Three Lehigh Valley Health Network locations are being recognized for advancing health equity for LGBTQ patients and staff.

The acknowledgement comes from the Human Rights Campaign, one of the largest LGBTQ advocacy groups.

LVHN’s Cedar Crest, Muhlenberg, and Pocono locations were highlighted as leaders in the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Index.  The index is a tool that evaluates health care policies and practices.

Judith Sabino is the chief diversity, equity, and inclusion liaison at LVHN.  She says patients can search for clinicians who the network identifies as providing LGBTQ patient and family support.

“When they come for service, that they're going to encounter clinicians, they're going to encounter office staff, colleagues, hospital personnel who are respectful of who they are as a person," she says.

Sabino says the network also offers benefits that are inclusive of LGBTQ needs, such as offering coverage to both the employee and their spouse, regardless of gender.
